Last July we had another great and blessed Radiant Life Retreat in Wisconsin. We had some wonderful missionary families and one single missionary that joined our 9-day debriefing retreat. What a joy to help and serve this group. (Note many of our participants can't have their pictures shown for security reasons)
It's always wonderful to read the expectations of our participants on the first evening of our retreat: - "Insight in what we need as a family for the next season" - "Want to see God bring truth into my children's heart" - "Processing our move" and "Family fun!"
Baggage becomes luggage
Old baggage was left behind as God revealed new vision and dreams. Participants went home with new tools and luggage.
What can we learn from "rooted" plants "being uprooted" and planted in new soil? Together with the families, we focussed on their personal "transition" stories. We helped them process through the joys and losses they've experienced in moving cross-culturally and in re-entering back home. The kids and teens had their own program, while the parents had their group sessions and personal debriefing time.
Missionary kids processing their "story" through art!
Kid's activities like this show them that sometimes we can get tied up in our losses through transition.
The kids built their own "transition bridge". They shared about their losses and named them. Sometimes kids feel sad for the things they miss and had to leave behind.
The kids symbolically "crossed" the transition bridge to their passport country.
Kids transitioning from their host country (mission field) back to their passport country.
Teaching on the River of Life. Drawing and visualizing their life path journey, the meaning and personal values of the River of Life.
Together with the participants we also took time for self-care activities and choosing lifestyles that lead to resiliency and optimum effectiveness. Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a healthy and resilient (missionary) life. FIT TO SERVE JESUS!
"Jesus, then You came along and put me back together".
After our retreat was done, one family wrote this and sent our debriefing team a picture of their clay pots that symbolize broken pieces that God has put back together.
"Glad to be back home. Lots of good memories from the retreat and grace for the road ahead".
THANK YOU! We can't thank YOU enough for all of the prayers that you said on Jo's behalf and for the Missionaries and Missionary Kids that came to our debriefing retreat. Your prayers and your financial support make it possible for Jo to go as a missionary debriefer and help serve at these retreats.
On October 3rd Jo is going again for two weeks for another Radiant Life Retreat to YWAM Northwoods in Wisconsin.
Thanks for praying and giving towards Jo's work in missionary care! We appreciate you and miss you all.
Love and blessings, Rodney, Jolanda, Lisa and Sarah

Last July Sarah was part of our retreat and helped take care of some cute little ones : ) What a joy, cuddles, and fun it was!
Sarah really enjoyed being back at a YWAM base again. She said it felt like being back at Heidebeek. Sweet memories!
Mom and daughter together on a "mission possible". Showing off the YWAM Northwoods sign.
The YWAM base had a beautiful lake so Sarah enjoyed some evenings canoeing.
August 25th Lisa celebrated her 17th birthday! She's our "pastry chef" and made some yummy mini cheesecakes.
Lisa during one of our Sunday afternoon hikes.
Both girls have started online school (for now until Oct.16). The school year has started in virtual classrooms.
Lisa is a "junior" in 11th grade (5e jaar middelbare school) and Sarah is in 8th grade (2e jaar middelbare school).
Rodney is doing well, loving his job and thankful for the chance to work with great people on some wonderful projects.
He's not in the spotlight much, but we're thankful of how he's taking care of his family.
